Abstract

This artwork explores SUSTAINAISSANCE through the resilience of nature and the importance of sustainable interconnectedness. What had begun as mere curiosity evolved into a multilayered digital artwork that reflects the pursuit of ecological balance alongside technological advancement, and the redefinition of personal identity anchored in ethnic roots. Using lichens as a living metaphor for sustainability through mutualism and acknowledging its role as a silent record-keeper of environmental health, the work visually contrasts distortion with the vibrancy of life to symbolise the need for balance between technological innovations and ecological fragility. The inclusion of literary expression through the use of Chinese characters adds a personal dimension through the exploration of one aspect of the artist’s culture and heritage. Through this artwork, it is hoped that sustainable values are seen by the viewers as a guide for co-creation and perhaps imagine a world where communities collectively agree to thrive together in balance.
